Our First Trip to Gymboree! {Review + $75 gift card Giveaway!)

Girls are never born on my side of the family, ever.  We always have boys, and there are plenty of perks to having only boys...like always having appropriate clothes, shoes, and boyish gear to play with to just pass along throughout the family.  It was great those first few months, but now that Buddy Doo is older we would like him to start his own style.  I've been into children apparel stores before, but only for (or with) my nephews years ago.  By the time Buddy Doo was born we were blessed to have so much stuff passed on to us that there really was no need. Now that he has outgrown most of it, its exciting to go shopping for cute outfits all over again!

When we walked into Gymboree, we were greeted with those fabulous red bins that sales and super-mega discount seekers are fond of.  We were stopped in our tracks when I noticed this ADORABLE hat in the $5.99 accessory bin..

I mean seriously, how stinkin' cute is it?  Buddy Doo loves hats.  To the point that when I take them off, he'll actually grab it and attempt to put it back on!  Buddy Doo is obsessed with this hat and we seriously may need to look into getting a back up..

One thing I noticed is that Gymboree has beautiful coordinating collections....for both girls and boys.  This is great because the pieces are interchangeable to create multiple outfits for less.  If you're a diaper bag hoarder (no, I don't have an abundance of diaper bags, I had an abundance of what I put in the bags!) like me, then you'll love the space this saves when bringing extra outfits!  We always have an extra, complete outfit in the trunk in the diaper caddy, but we know Buddy Doo goes through shirts like his daddy so we tend to carry two shirts to each pair of pants while out and about.  This has eliminated some of the cuter designer bottoms in lieu of more versatile ones like plain jeans or khakis, but not anymore!  While we tried to shop in some of our favorite collections like the Shark Patrol and All-American Style, unfortunately Buddy Doo's size is very popular and we couldn't get all the pieces we wanted in his size.  We were able to improvise, however, because of how interchangeable Gymboree's clothes as a whole are.  Sure, they aren't all matchy-matchy, but I think they work pretty well together if I do say so myself :)

(Not pictured: "Fun in the Sun" white tank)

We were generously given a $75 gift card to shop their Red Balloon sale and new collections.  We coupled it with a 20% off coupon the lovely lady in front of us had a spare of, and signed up for their rewards program the sales associate tempted us with for even more savings!  We went a little over (at roughly $100 for our shopping trip), but we simply couldn't part with any of it!!  We just found out a dear friend of ours will find out the sex of her baby sometime next week, and I'm already counting down the days to our next Gymboree shopping trip for her shower gift (and Buddy Doo of course! Here's hoping the shark embroidered shorts are back in stock -wink-). To say we have fallen in love with Gymboree is an understatement.

With the $75 gift card we got:

"Fun in the Sun" white tank, $5
Pelican Surfboard tank, $5
Jellyfish stripe tank, $5

(some items are no longer available online)

You don't have to stay within their collections, however.  There are plenty of 'chameleon' pieces that are both affordable and versatile.  Plus, with their huge Red Balloon Sale, many of them are up to 70% off or only $5!!

(Shirt and shorts from the All-American Style collection; trail sandals from Outback Adventure)

I was born and raised in the military, and we often go back 'home' to my family's house and military base that they retired at.  The Fourth of July is a huge base-wide celebration and there's an all-day line-up of music and entertainment.  We missed last year's because I was heavily pregnant, but of course we couldn't pass up this outfit for Buddy Doo's first Fourth of July!  I love the shorts.  I mean, I love the shorts and can easily see us using them all year (or as long as they fit -wink-).  We cloth diaper, so there are honestly more hats in Buddy Doo's wardrobe than bottoms.  I mean, who wants to cover up such a cute little bum with some plain jane shorts, knit bottoms, or jeans?  These aren't just any bottoms, though.  At Gymboree, you are guaranteed to find bottoms that add style to your little one's wardrobe without compromising quality. My husband was so surprised to see Buddy Doo wearing these shorts now that its summertime (instead of showing off some fluff), he asked me if my mom was over and dressed him!

Trying on the shorts over his cloth diapered bum :)

For your little 'First Mate'!

I can't get enough of these combos.  I first fell in love with the turtle patchwork shorts, but since they were part of the Big Red Balloon sale they were both the last one left AND the last piece in the store for that collection.  Of course that didn't stop me from getting them, so I had to 'make it work' and find other pieces to compliment them :)  You can also add the shark hat for your little beach bum for added 'rad-ness'

Although rather simple, I get a lot of compliments when he wears this to the grocery store.  Sure it doesn't match perfectly, but it makes a great standby diaper bag outfit!

You can kind of make out the "Fun in the Sun" white tank here.  Buddy Doo needed a change as soon as we left the store, and so we thought why not let him show it off?

Don't forget your accessories! The ties are going to pair perfectly for Buddy Doo's smash cake and first birthday professional pictures, and I couldn't pass up the headbands for a friend's baby girl's first birthday right around the corner.

Gymboree has a HUGE selection for both boys AND girls.  Let's face it, girls always have a huge selection no matter how small the store, but boys on the other hand are lucky to even have a fourth of the store dedicated to their apparel.  Not at Gymboree!  While you can enjoy their vast selection online at your convenience anytime, you really don't want to miss out on the amazing customer service they have in-store.  They are Buddy Doo approved!

See ya later, alligator! :)
